For the topic interior spaces I did the inside of an egg carton. The first thing that came to my mind when I heard interior spaces was inside of my refrigerator. I thought that may be a little difficult, so I decided to take some pictures of the inside of an egg carton. I took different pictures but decided I like the picture of two eggs by two eggs, making a perfect square. I thought that just normal eggs were kind of boring, so I decided to crack one open and put the yolk in one side of the shell and then put the shells across from each other. We got to chose our medium so I decided to try using oil paints again because I enjoyed using them the first time. I first started with drawing the eggs. The eggs were really difficult to draw especially for the full, uncracked eggs. They are circles, but they were kind of leaning sideways so it gave them a weird angle. They eggs had many highlights in them which made it difficult as well, but in the end I think I was able to get the right amount of darks and lights in them. The cracked eggs were not as difficult to paint because they were not a complete circle and I could play with how they were shaped a little more. For the background I used a small brush and created a texture with it to give the photo the "carton" look. I used different shades of brown and then added some white and grey to get the full result.
The difficulties that I had were making the full eggs the correct size. That took a lot of playing with the highlights and shadows before I got it right. Another difficulty I had was making the yolk in the one egg shell look slimy. It took a bunch of highlights but I think in the end I got it right. I enjoyed doing this project, and think it was a good experience to learn to try to do spheres. I also enjoyed using oil paints again and hope to use them again.
