For self portraits, I wanted to use on of my senior pictures. There were a lot that focused just on my face, but I especially liked this one because of the scarf. I decided to take a risk and draw this one, knowing that the details of the scarf would be difficult to master. I started this project with the skin. It took me a little while to get used to the charcoal. The skin took a while for me, I had to get used to smoothing it out, and how much charcoal to lay down. I added some freckles in as well to help darken up the skin. The hand was as challenge for me as usual, but I like the way it turned out. I may go back and add a little more value to it though. The eyes were a challenge as well. I wanted to make sure I got the right darkness and bright areas. The highlights help make the eyes stand out more to me. The eyelashes I did basically last. I was afraid to do them because I didn't want to mess up when they need to be so dark, but I like how they turned out. I had to redo the hair about 3 times. The first two times I hadn't added any wave to it. It looked stick straight, and I do have some wave in my hair so I was pleased with how it turned out. Lastly, I worked on the detail of the scarf. I practiced the scarf a lot and finally figured out a way to do it. I really like how it turned out, and for me it was easier than most of the other things.
