For this piece I drew my cousin Michael. I chose this picture to give me a challenge- that being the facial hair. It turned out not being the hardest thing for me, but it was definitely still a challenge. The thing I struggled most with was the hair. Michael's hair is curly and short, so I had trouble getting the same look. The picture is also dark, so it's difficult for me to see all of the details. His complexion is darker than some portraits that I've done, so I was happy with the shade of his skin. I plan to continue to work on the hair and the lips as well. They don't look the way I want them to yet, so I plan to continue to work on that. I want to touch up the rigid edges of the facial hair as well. I want to blend them together so they don't look like the were placed there. There isn't much I would do different if I did it again. I maybe would try and find a better picture for his hair but that's it. I like the photo I chose, I think it brings out his personality and also depicts the small details in his face. I really like this piece, it's probably one of my favorites. I am excited to finish the hair and see final product.
