For the Colored Pencil Magazine, we were to draw a picture that they gave us for a competition. The picture they gave us was very similar to mine. We were allowed to alter the photo but I wanted to try and do it exactly like the picture. I practiced drawing the bows in my sketchbook and each one of them took a while to do. They took a lot of time, having to focus on each and every small color detail. There were a lot more colors in each bow then you would think from just looking at them. I liked using prisma colors for this project, being able to easily blend colors together. Even though it got tedious towards the end, I did enjoy doing the bows and I liked focusing on the little details. Time and patience are what I needed to be able to work on this project and after a while I would lose patience. If I could change anything about this project I probably would have taken more time on each and every piece of ribbon. I think it turned out okay but I wish it would have turned out a little more precise with each detail. I also would do the shadows differently (don't look at them). I would have liked them to be a little bit darker and neater, and I may go back and change them. I also would have changed how I did my red bow. I probably would have added more pink and purple tents into it to give it more value. My favorite bows are the purple, gold and silver. I like the variety of colors in them all and I like how they turned out. I do like this piece of art but I think that there are some things that I would change about it if I could.
I am glad that this project was assigned because I felt like it was a challenge for at least me to do, and it stretched my brain focusing on the highlights and darks of each of the bows, along with the reflections from the other bows. I hope to do more pieces like this because I really did enjoy it.
