For this piece I drew my cousin Riley. One challenge that I had was with her hair. It had blonde streaks towards the front, which challenged me with how I gave her highlights. I decided to make the back pieces darker and then that would naturally make the front pieces look lighter. I was happy with how it turned out. Another challenge was her nose. From the picture I used, the lights and darks of the nose weren't very clear to see, so I struggled with where to put them. Also, I feel that it may look a little sideways so I want to fix that as well. I was pleased with how the smoothness of her skin turned out. I feel that this piece captures Riley's personality really well, and I think I was able to make that seen in my artwork. I have some changes that I will probably go back and fix, but for the most part I am pleased with how this turned out. If I were to do it again though, I would probably used a different picture. I had trouble seeing certain things. But other than that I enjoyed this piece.
For this piece, I drew my mom. This is different than the rest of my concentration pieces because I decided to change my medium. Instead of pencil, I used Prisma colored pencils. I liked the outcome of this piece, but I am not sure if I will do another Prisma colored portrait. It was very difficult to get the skin the right shade and texture. The few wrinkles that my mom has, were difficult to do as well. It was hard to get the right shade in each particular spot. The eyelid was also very difficult for me, especially the wrinkled part. Once I had everything laid out, I then when back over the skin to add her freckles. That part was difficult because she had parts of skin that looked brown because there were so many freckles there. I am still not finished with this yet, I probably will end up adding a background color. I am pleased with the outcome, even though it was challenging. I would like to try it again, but it is very time consuming.
For this piece I drew my brother. I enjoyed this piece because there was a strong contrast between the lights and darks of his face. His complexion was one of the most difficult things for me because his skin is dark and he has plenty of freckles. He also has a little bit of facial hair which challenged me as well. I am pleased with how it came out. I also was scared to do the hair, but I really like how it turned out. I wanted to incorporate texture into this piece, and I plan to for the rest of my pieces as well. I decided to make a pattern for his shirt. I really like how this adds to the piece. I still may go back and add some more darks, but I am very pleased with this piece. I also like the highlight that is shown on his right half of his face, it brings contrast. Overall, this is probably one of my favorite pieces and I am very pleased with how it turned out.
For this piece I drew my baby cousin Savannah. This helps to incorporate the younger side of my family. I enjoyed doing this piece probably because there wasn't any hair. Getting the skin to look smooth is always a challenge though. The hardest thing for me is the clothing. It is hard for me to create the creases and texture shown in each piece. I like how this one turned out, but her outfit is more fuzzy than it looks. If I could change anything, I would add more texture to her shirt. Besides that, I really like how it turned out. I feel that the perspective of it helps to portray her personality. Making sure my darks were dark enough was another challenge.
