For this piece of my concentration I drew my mom. This is when the pieces are getting a little more difficult. As I work on people who are older, the harder the pieces get for me. The skin has more wrinkles in it and isn't as smooth as a teenager or toddler would be. My mom's skin is still pretty smooth but there were some parts that were more difficult than others. I didn't like this piece at all at first. I don't think it looks too much like my mom. But as time has passed, I like it a little more. I still may do another one of her, and try to portray a different emotion though. I really like how her hair turned out. The highlights help make the piece in my opinion. She has a lot of freckles so that was difficult, and I still haven't added all that I wanted to. I still want to add some value to her teeth and a little more shadow under her chin. With her hair being so dark, I feel that there needs to be some darker value in her face. Over all, I am starting to like this piece and I like the smoothness of her skin.
For this piece I drew my sister Abbey. I like this picture because I think that it sums up her personality. I started this piece with her skin. For me that's the most difficult part. I tried many techniques to get her skin the way that it should be. I like the way that it turned out. The second most difficult part was the hair. I'm not very good at doing hair, but after practicing a few times, I think I got the hang of it. I think the contrast between her fair skin and her dark hair helps to complement the piece. I really like how her eyes turned out as well. In the photo I couldn't see any detail in the eyes, but I decided to add some anyways. I really like the contrast in the lips as well. I think if I could change anything I would maybe go back in and touch up the hair line. I wouldn't make it look so precise and more random. Also I want to go back in and add some more value to her sweatshirt. Maybe even add some texture to it like a sweater would have. I really like how this piece turned out and because of this, I want to do more pieces like this one. It took a lot of pictures to find the right one, but I am really happy with how it turned out.
